This Place is for The Birds!

Most of you know that I had a collection of bird houses above our kitchen cabinets. WELL :), there were "8" and NOW they are personalized for each of our children with the appropriate number of birds in each! Dad gave me a gift of more "birds" for Christmas and I got busy. They really are pretty cute. If you want to see an upclose pic of YOUR house, please ask!
I remembered that I had this little ceramic basket and brought it out when Chelsea said that we ought to have a little "egg" in her house for the new baby coming. It ALREADY had TWO little eggs in it - one pink and one blue! Okay, so that's like totally what? Theres a word - can you think of it?

What a thoughtful gift idea, to add birds to your houses. So about the birdhouse I have here at my house...does Sammy have a house there too or should I fill the birdhouse you gave me with birds representing Sammy's friends at Merry Glen? It's pretty big, lots of room for birds :)

Wondering to myself now if birds ever have twins from one egg...

Meg -
Yes, birds can have twins (from one egg - obviously, since they lay more than one egg, they're always having twins, triplets, quads, etc). It is a rare occurrence for both to survive. Usually, one embryo out competes the other and only one chick survives to hatch. But most of the time both embryos die before hatching. The record number of yolks found inside one egg is nine.

And as far as what to call mom's convenient finding of two eggs for our nest... it's just awesome.
